back

So i looked and it has been over a month since my last blog...preposterous....my sincerest fo ryou few who might actually read this. For your patience i thought i might regale you with a mildly humerous story that quite possibly happened as of late to one such as myself.

So currently i am winding down after a horrendously front loaded wedding season this year having in total around 4 receptions and 3 weddings that was untill Saturday mornign when i realized i had one more wedding to attend in the near future..that is untill teh fall hits incurring another round of weddings. So i realized this last early summer wedding was coming up within the next couple of weeks and that i should most likely check teh invitation to schedule the upcoming weekends, albeit loosley.
after digging through a moderate hill of papers i retrieved said invitation and checking the date, the only response forthocming ended up being....."Well Crap!!!! Its today!!!!!" It' true, i only had four hours till the wedding of a friend that had somehow snuck up on me undetected. Well to cut this now somewhat anticlimactic story short...it was a gorgeous wedding in a small little town in a quaint church followed by a congenial and entertaining reception of which i had to duck out of early so as to meet some friends for a dinner and movie night i had been in charge of planning.

so theres my somewhat funny story..maybe funny just for me.

In other thoughts of my random brain, i have been reading this book by Rob Bell ( a pastor of a unique and intriguiing church in Grand Rapids, MI.) titled, "Velvit Elvis." It provides a new and soemtimes uncomfortable look at the current state of Christianity and what it is, what it should be, and maybe what it shouldnt. It's really been making me think and examine how i live my life, how i walk my faith, how truthful i am to myself and to others.
As an example, it touched on a subject i have been battling for a bit now. The lable of "Christian" on many things these days that maybe have no business being called "Christian." my big problem lately is the idea of Christian bookstores.....why should a bookstore be only Christian? isnt having an establishment such as a bookstore, or a studio, etc. be exclusively "Christan" somewhat counter-productive to our mission as followers of Christ. Is having places like these encasing ourselves in a bubble that seperates us from those that we should be reaching out to. Just something to think on i guess.

well thats about it for me tonight. As for a media reccomendation.....The Dante Club by Matthew Pearl is so far an excellent read. an intersting take on the historical fiction/murder mystery genre that has become so prevelant with the likes of The Da Vinci Code and The Historian. Pick up the new Snow Patrol album "Eyes Open" if you haven't.

Hey Michael! I'm reading "Velvet Elvis" as well and what a good thought provoking book that is!! Like you said, it does give you a lot to think about or examine in our lives - a new way to think about things. Glad to hear things are going well!!
